The Art of Suggestion in Online Marketing

There is a great art to sales and this is exactly the same in person, on paper or online. Sometimes a business owner may think sales techniques are underhanded or misguided, but that is only if the intentions of the business owner is misguided or underhanded. Truly artful selling is about showing the future client how your services help them and do it in a way where the future client’s brain is making the connection instead of you making the connection for them.

One way to do this is through the power of suggestion mixed with the power of testimonials. Here is an example of selling your services without turning into the pushy, used car salesman sort.

Example: You are writing a sales page online to help potential clients see the value and understand that you are for hire. As you are educating them in why they could use your services in their business, you can start adding in client examples . . .” as an example, one expert was just hired to help a Naturopathic doctor implement an online membership program for his practice that would enable him to share articles, cleanses and health advice to a wider array of people, bringing additional revenue to his office and helping him become a widely recognized expert. This has worked phenomenally for him.”

Later on in the sales page, he might mention that he is available to train employees on successfully marketing a business online . . ” for example, a vacation rental agency recently hired him to come into their office for a half-day seminar on ways to promote their properties online. He came in and was able to leave them with five weekly tasks that will successfully increase their SEO and their bookings online.”

In this way you are dropping in hints of ways you might help the reader (and potential client) of this page. When you sell this way, the reader is able to extrapolate from the example and start thinking of ways that you could help them, turning your help into their idea, not yours.

You can use this in so many different ways; in speeches, in videos, in marketing materials and on social media.

Towards the end, of course, you want to say something like “If I can help your business in online marketing consulting, contact me here to set up a free 15 minutes consultation for your business needs. Will do the job perfectly. ;)
