As an affiliate marketer, working in this field more than 10 years (affiliate marketing and programs), I decided to share with you some useful tips, that will give you more ideas and skills in running this kind of online business successfully.

During the years I have been working with a lot of affiliate programs. This makes me choosing, understanding and earning better. The tips mentioned below are listed the way I think they should be – for better start in this field.

Here are the advices, that will be a great must-do list for beginners and people who work with affiliate programs:

1. Choosing your niche. To my personal opinion this is the most important thing before starting your affiliate business. It is really important to look for low competitive niches; big enough niche - earning good money; the traffic should come from different resources, not only Google; the niche should be interesting and attractive for those who will get into it; less banned (which means – adult, casino, drugs, gambling and similar are mush harder to be promoted using the traditional methods).

2. Choosing your affiliate program. I personally choose an affiliate program by following these criterias – most important to me:

- Good conversion;
- Attractive % commission;
- Payment methods.

The way I listed them above is for a reason. Also there are many others, which are not less important – marketing materials, fast responding and advanced support, well-known products, many products / services to choose from, and other features, taking main role in joining and working with an affiliate program. I do not need to mention it, that the niche and the products / services must be relevant, meaning the affiliate products / services should be the solution in this niche. For example, if your niche is hair loss, your product should be hair loss oil, shampoo, pills and etc.

3. Creating a well-converting web site / page. To be honest with you – you need a web site. A web site with pages and everything. Those who will count on a single page to make it happen, they should not be surprised if there is a low or no SE traffic. But if you want to have one single page and rely on paid traffic and the traffic from relevant sites, you will probably have positive results. One thing you should know here – potential buyers want to see well-structured, informative and useful web sites. I recommend product, review or even an informative web site. The best combination I have seen is an informative web site with а review section.

4. Driving targeted traffic to your affiliate web site. No matter what those so called marketing specialists are explaining, there are two types of traffic – targeted and not targeted (in most cases – junk). In our case with the affiliating, the targeted traffic is the one that works for us. Only this one. The best traffic for an affiliate site (according to my personal experience) is, as it follows:

- The organic SE traffic;
- The paid (sponsored ads) SE traffic;
- The traffic from the relevant web sites (blogs, forums);
- The traffic from your newsletter;
- The social traffic (fan pages, channels, profiles).

Driving targeted traffic from search engines, no matter is it organic or paid, you need to select the keywords that will bring your real buyers, not just visitors. According to my experience I have noticed that keyword xxxxxx has lower conversion rate than the keywords yyyy xxxxx zzzz. Or put it in other way – long tail keywords have better conversion rate. You should go for the main keyword(s) in the niche, but start with the small one. The logic goes like this. And one more thing concerning our SEO – the text on your web pages is not for the bots, it is for humans. Remember that when writing it.

5. Improving the conversion. After you start running your site, and receiving some visits, now is the time to think about your conversion. If you make a sale out of 50 visitors, I can assure you that you can go better than this – a sale out of 40, 30 and more. How? Well, it is easy. With a few improvements you can do it – quality and realistic product image; cut down the menus; adding a video; happy stories from your clients; products/ service certificates; phone number; strong sales messages and many more. In most cases is just experimenting with your page. But do not forget to do all that stuff once the targeted traffic comes on your web site. Doing nothing is all about losing clients and money. Take it as a strong recommendation by me (I will be happy to give some useful advise here, in the thread).

6. Becoming an authority resource in your niche. This is the final and most wanted point here for every affiliate marketer. This is the top moment of every site, no matter is it affiliate web site or other – this is the level that every site owner would love to be on – much more traffic, better income.

Not like the other web sites, that copy paste and translating the information, here I am sharing my personal experience. Something that works, and I know that works. Becoming an authority resource in your niche. Will be glad to see your comments and opinions here. The thread deserves to be educational and a nice guide for all affiliates.

Good luck to all of you, who want or work with affiliate programs.
